In the Western tradition an author working this material takes a motto — Mathers, Crowley and Regardie all wrote under theirs. The motto is not a mask; it is a statement of the work. This one names the whole method of the book: the drawing of light — the seventy-two emanations of the Name — into form: the seal, the square, the practice.

The lineage statement

This grimoire was compiled under the motto Frater Lucem in Formam Trahens. Every angelic name, three-letter root, choir attribution, planetary Kamea and psalm in these pages has been checked against the primary sources: Agrippa's De Occulta Philosophia (1531), Mathers' Key of Solomon (1889), Regardie's Golden Dawn (1937), and Skinner & Rankine's edition of the Goetia of Dr Rudd (2007). Where the sources disagree, the disagreement is noted rather than resolved silently. The seals are traced by the method set out in Part VIII of the grimoire, and you are shown how to trace them yourself. Where I have made a judgement, I say so.
